Work Model: Work from Home Type: Part-time - Modified Full-time (up to ~30 hrs per week) Pay Range: $45/hr - $55/hr (Non-exempt) Last Updated: 8.11.26 Background Check Eligible (Y/N): Y Benefits: Various healthcare plans 401(k) with Match PTO, Sick, and Holidays Work from home & flexible schedule (May be asked to make occasional client visits) JOB SUMMARY As a Virtual HR Advisor II at Real HR Hero, you’ll play a key role in supporting our clients, primarily small to mid-sized businesses, as they build and maintain HR infrastructures that actually work for them. We’re not just another HR firm -- we act as expert advisors, hands-on practitioners, and reliable day-to-day support for companies that need real solutions, not generic templates. In this role, you’ll not only support your assigned clients but also provide mentorship to our HR Advisor I team members and client internal HR team members. You’ll assess client needs, conduct gap analyses, prioritize projects, and collaborate closely with both internal teams and external client contacts. You’ll also be the go-to for escalated issues and contribute to our ongoing compliance initiatives, educational blog, and special projects. This position supports multi-state clients but will have many California-based clients, with all the complexities of state/city/county-specific labor and Wage & Hour laws. We're looking for someone who's strategic and experienced, with a sharp eye for detail, a collaborative mindset, and a good sense of humor. This role blends HR expertise with client-focused project management, with a dash of creativity. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Serve as primary HR advisor for assigned client accounts; build trusted advisory relationships - Serve as expert advisor to clients supporting them with complex HR matters (e.g., employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, benefits, payroll, compliance, etc.) - Conduct HR assessments; conduct research; create customized templates and documentation - Develop tailored HR infrastructure for clients based on their specific needs - Virtually facilitate various HR tasks as agreed by the client - Use approved AI or technology tools responsibly, including protecting confidential information, verifying accuracy, and applying human HR judgment before relying on outputs - Maintain 70%+ billable hours once fully trained, requiring accurate job costing - Mentor HR Advisor I team members - Manage tasks and client documents in reputed company, Box, SharePoint, and Teams - Collaborate with legal counsel on audits, investigations, and high-risk matters - Identify and escalate service opportunities - Stay current on HR trends and regulations, especially California law - Recruiting various positions in various industry - Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to organizational success. BACKGROUND CHECK ELIGIBLE DUTIES This position will have access to various applications that house confidential information, including client employee payroll/HCM databases, and sensitive client and client employee personal documentation; ensure that access is used responsibly, maintaining confidentiality and privacy compliance requirements while preventing accidental or malicious misuse of client and client employee information. QUALIFICATIONS -- An acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and skill will be considered. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: - 6+ years of progressive multi-state HR experience including HR manager or HR business partner, or HR consulting experience. - Extensive experience with California labor law is required, including deep working knowledge of California employment law, wage and hour compliance, leave management, accommodations, employee relations, and protected class considerations. - Experience coaching managers and employees through difficult conversations, conflict resolution, and performance challenges. - Experience mentoring, training, or supporting junior HR professionals is preferred. - Experience working for or with a fractional HR firm is a strong plus. - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. - The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
