This remote opportunity is ideal for a VMware Cloud Engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, improving virtualization performance, and collaborating across teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.<br><br><strong>Responsibilities<br><br></strong><ul><li>Design, implement, test, troubleshoot, and support virtualization infrastructure for an on-premises platform environment.</li><li>Work closely with engineering and DevOps teams to improve test strategies, build automation, and strengthen deployment processes.</li><li>Perform end-to-end validation to ensure platform functionality, stability, and integration across systems.</li><li>Evaluate and improve information security across virtualized infrastructure.</li><li>Apply virtualization best practices within enterprise environments.</li><li>Optimize network hardware and software to support virtualization integration and performance.</li><li>Investigate early indicators of platform risk and help address potential feature or application issues.</li><li>Conduct root cause analysis for customer-reported issues and contribute to long-term solutions.</li><li>Partner with cross-functional teams to support new platform capabilities and customer needs.</li><li>Create and maintain technical documentation and product materials as needed.<br><br><br></li></ul><strong>Skills<br><br></strong><ul><li>Strong expertise in virtualization technologies, including hypervisors and network virtualization.</li><li>Hands-on experience with KVM and Harvester.</li><li>Deep knowledge of VMware technologies such as vSphere, vSAN, vMotion, vCenter, and/or vRA.</li><li>Proven experience with enterprise VMware deployment best practices.</li><li>Ability to automate VMware environments using tools such as PowerCLI, Python, or Go.</li><li>Experience using infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform for VMware deployments.</li><li>Ability to troubleshoot issues within vSphere clusters using tools such as pktcap-uw, esxtop, and esxcli.</li><li>Working knowledge of L2 and L3 networking protocols.</li><li>Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP.</li><li>Programming or scripting experience in Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, or similar languages.</li><li>Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex technical problems.</li><li>Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical partners.<br><br><br></li></ul><strong>Preferred Skills<br><br></strong><ul><li>Experience with VMware alternatives such as KVM/Nutanix or RedHat/OpenShift.</li><li>VMware Certified Advanced Professional certification.</li><li>Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 7+ years of experience.</li><li>Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of experience.</li><li>PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of experience.</li><li>Experience working in collaborative, fast-moving engineering environments.</li><li>Ability to document solutions clearly and communicate findings to a variety of audiences.<br><br><br></li></ul>Horizontal is committed to building an inclusive and welcoming environment where diverse perspectives are valued and everyone has the opportunity to contribute and grow.
