Technical Writer - Construction & Building Design, Entry Level

Role:Technical Specification Writer

We're looking for a detail-oriented Technical Specification Writer to join our team. You'll support the design and construction process by translating architectural and engineering requirements into clear, comprehensive technical documents that guide material selection, installation, and certification testing.

What You'll Do

• Translate design requirements into detailed material specifications, methods, equipment procedures, and installation guidelines• Research products and systems to support material selection and design standards• Review and coordinate technical specifications to ensure consistency with established standards• Assist architects and project managers with constructability analysis and product substitution reviews• Help develop and improve master specification documents• Maintain technical resource libraries and project documentation• Support sustainability and green building practices in all specifications work• Participate in cost analysis and lifecycle assessments for building materials and systems• Work collaboratively across design and construction teams

Skills/background needed

• Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)• Understanding of architectural design, building systems, and construction methodology• Knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply them to technical documents• Familiarity with building envelope components and material requirements• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email• Strong written and verbal communication skills• Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a teamPrior experience with specifications development, sustainability standards, or building certification systems is a bonus but not required—full training will be provided.

Contract length:Full time, permanent position

Rate:Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.

Location:On-site position based in Philadelphia, PA.
