Studio Art Director

Devoted Studios is a globally remote game development company specializing in Co-development, Porting, and End-to-End Art Production for the global gaming industry.

We collaborate across time zones to support projects on all major platforms, engines and styles - from AAA titles to emerging technologies. Our team includes world-class talents who bring deep expertise in external development, pipeline optimization, and creative problem-solving. Whether it’s porting games to new systems, enhancing gameplay features, or crafting stunning visuals, Devoted Studios operates as a trusted, flexible extension of our partners’ internal teams. We are proud to be the development partner of choice for industry leaders such as:

  • Epic
  • Xbox
  • Meta
  • Obsidian Entertainment
  • Riot
  • Gearbox Software

The Studio Art Director owns the visual quality of everything Devoted ships. You will set the art direction across several projects at once, often working inside our clients’ IP. You will lead and grow our art leads and senior artists, and make our art pipeline faster, more consistent and easier to scale.

This is a studio leadership role. Alongside project direction, you will shape how we build proposals, staff productions, onboard freelancers and pitch new work, and you will have a seat in greenlight and executive planning discussions.

Key Responsibilities:

Visual vision & art direction

• Define and drive the overall visual vision for the studio’s projects.

• Establish and maintain a cohesive art style aligned with each IP, brand and target audience.

• Translate high-level creative goals into clear visual guidelines and execution strategies.

• Provide art direction across multiple projects simultaneously.

Quality & review

• Set and uphold quality benchmarks across all art disciplines: concept, 3D, environment, 3D characters and more.

• Conduct regular art reviews and give clear, actionable feedback.

• Ensure visual consistency across assets, features and game environments.

• Review and approve key assets, style guides and final visual deliverables.

• Ensure milestone deliveries meet artistic standards and deadlines.

Cross-functional collaboration

• Work closely with Game Directors, Producers, Design and Engineering.

• Align artistic vision with gameplay, technical constraints and production timelines.

Leadership & talent

• Lead, mentor and inspire art leads and senior artists.

• Participate in hiring and talent development strategy, and recommend the best-fit talent for each production.

• Foster a culture of creative excellence, accountability and collaboration.

Pipeline & production

• Oversee the efficiency and scalability of art pipelines.

• Identify and remove production bottlenecks.

• Help build and drive unified production requirements across the studio.

• Help streamline freelancer onboarding through design manuals, video walkthroughs and clear standards.

Studio strategy & pre-production

• Collaborate with the pre-production team on client proposals.

• Support pitch decks and pre-production concept development.

• Participate in executive planning and greenlight discussions, and contribute to long-term studio strategy.

• 10+ years in game art production, including 5+ years as an Art Director or in an equivalent studio-level art leadership role.

• Shipped titles where you personally owned the visual direction, with a portfolio that shows both your own work and work you directed.

• Command of multiple art disciplines (concept, environment, characters, 3D) and the judgement to set a quality bar for each.

• Experience directing several projects or teams at once, including distributed, external or outsourced artists.

• Working knowledge of modern art pipelines in Unreal and/or Unity and the main DCC tools.

• A track record of growing art leads, not just directing individual artists.

• Clear written and verbal communication with creative, technical and business stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Co-development, outsourcing or service-studio experience, especially executing within a client’s established IP.

• Experience writing art bibles, style guides or onboarding material for external teams.

• Involvement in pitches, proposals, bidding or greenlight processes.

• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted tools in art production or review workflows
