Student Nurse Extern, 13 14E

## Position Profile Humber River Health is lighting new ways in healthcare. Since opening our doors in 2015 as North America's first fully digital hospital, we've been committed to changing the hospital where we work, the community where we live, and the world of healthcare beyond our borders. Serving a community of 850,000 residents in North West Toronto, we're formally affiliated with both the University of Toronto and Queen's University and are proud to be on a journey toward becoming a community academic hospital. We are currently looking for Student Nurse Externs to be part of our medicine and surgical programs. This is a temporary part-time position based at our Wilson Site, running until March 31, 2027. You'll work rotating 8- or 12-hour shifts—days, evenings, nights, and weekends—under a non-union labour group. The salary rate is $17.60 per hour, and you'll report to the Manager of the 13/14 floor. ### The Role As a Student Nurse Extern, you'll step into an unregulated healthcare worker role providing direct personal support to our patients. You'll be responsible for basic care activities of daily living—such as bathing, toileting, and feeding—for up to 10 patients each shift. You'll work under the supervision of both Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses, following department policies and procedures. You'll also document activities of daily living, including intake and output, and communicate relevant information for the patients in your care. Please note: this role does not include performing or being delegated any regulated acts like medication administration, taking vital signs, or conducting assessments. If you have any clinical concerns, you'll report them immediately to your direct supervisor. ### What You'll Bring We're looking for someone currently enrolled in years 2–4 of a nursing program of studies. A current CPR certification is required. You'll need excellent communication skills and exceptional customer service skills—a true team player who works well with others. You should be able to accurately and effectively communicate with the inter-professional healthcare team, and you'll want to demonstrate a solid understanding of technology. In this role, you'll provide basic assistive care with frequent supervision and ongoing mentoring from a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse. You'll also need to comply with mandatory HRH training, including Privacy & Confidentiality requirements, WHMIS, Fire & Safety, and hand hygiene modules. Strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, and the ability to assess difficult situations are essential. We value good work attendance, and an understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as they relate to health practices is definitely an asset—Humber River Health values lived and learned experiences in addressing systemic barriers and advancing inclusive practices. ### Why Choose Humber River Health?
