STEAM In-Person Instructor for Kids & Makerspace - Fall 2026

AFTER-SCHOOL STEM INSTRUCTORS
Fall 2026 Semester | NYC

We are looking for enthusiastic, experienced, and responsible after-school instructors to lead hands-on building, robotics, computer science, and STEM projects for elementary and middle school students at multiple schools throughout New York City.

SCHEDULE AND LOCATION

Hours are based on our contracted after-school programs across different NYC boroughs. Programs generally take place between 2:30 PM and 6:00 PM on one or more weekdays, Monday through Friday.

You may be assigned to schools in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.

This position may be renewed each semester based on performance and the renewal of our school contracts.

THREE PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • AFTER-SCHOOL STEM INSTRUCTOR
  • Lead hands-on projects for students ages 6-14 in areas such as:
  • Materials engineering
  • Robotics
  • Minecraft
  • Scratch coding
  • Computer science
  • Building and makerspace projectsPrograms are generally held one or more days per week, Monday through Friday, from approximately 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

Compensation: $25-$30/hour based on expertise and experience.

  • LESSON AND PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
  • Research and create project-based lessons in materials engineering, computer science, and related STEM areas. You may also be asked to record instructional videos explaining how to build or complete each project.

Compensation: $15/hour.

  • OPTIONAL EVENTS AND CAMPS
  • Instructors may also be considered for additional instructional opportunities, including special events, holiday camps, and summer camps.

These programs generally run from approximately 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and provide additional hours of service.

Compensation: $15-$20/hour.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience teaching and managing children ages 5-14
  • Expertise or strong passion in a STEM/STEAM field
  • Knowledge of one or more technology areas, such as graphic design, video production and editing, coding, CAD, HTML, or related technologies
  • Experience with crafting, designing, building, hacking, and making in general
  • Experience writing lesson plans is a plus
  • Strong English language proficiency
  • Ability to maintain consistent and professional communication and record-keeping through phone, email, and Google Drive
  • Ability to communicate professionally with the After-School Director and parents
  • Ability to travel throughout NYC for work and arrive on time for every class
  • Ability to commit to the entire semester
  • Ability to improvise and supplement projects and curriculum as needed

NYSED licensure at any grade level, along with a passion for makerspace, digital arts, or media, is preferred but not required.

IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS

In most cases, instructors will be required to:

  • Complete fingerprinting and a background check
  • Attend a one-day training before teaching

The cost of the background check will be covered by us.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
