Software Engineer II (Remote)

About the Role Rula is hiring a Senior Staff Software Engineer to serve as the technical individual contributor leader for the Provider organization. This role combines deep software engineering expertise, architectural leadership, and cross-functional influence to guide technical modernization and growth across the Provider domain. As a strategic partner to the Senior Director, the Senior Staff Software Engineer will help define the technical roadmap, establish engineering standards, and lead high-impact initiatives spanning multiple teams. The successful candidate will bring extensive full-stack and distributed-systems experience, strong architectural judgment, and the ability to influence technical and product direction across stakeholders. Key Responsibilities * Set the technical roadmap and engineering direction across the Provider organization. Establish and maintain engineering standards, architectural practices, and design patterns. Lead high-impact technical initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams. Serve as a principal or lead architect for a major product domain or engineering group. Drive all phases of the software development lifecycle, including planning, specification, execution, success measurement, and post-launch maintenance. Design and develop modern database-backed web applications using SQL and NoSQL technologies. Develop and guide microservice-based systems and architectures. Design and support high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems and cloud infrastructure. Work on complex technical projects with a focus on sustainable results. Partner with engineering, product, and other stakeholders to bridge technical and non-technical perspectives. Influence engineering direction and product strategy across multiple stakeholders without relying on direct authority. Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance. Review software architectures and establish effective design patterns. Required Qualifications * 10+ years of related professional software engineering experience. Full-stack software development experience building modern database-backed web applications. Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases. Experience developing microservices. Extensive experience serving as a principal or lead architect for a major product domain or engineering organization. Experience driving the full software development lifecycle, including planning, specification, execution, measuring success, and post-launch maintenance. Deep knowledge of high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems. Strong understanding of microservices architecture and cloud infrastructure. Experience working on highly complex technical projects with a focus on sustainable results. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to influence engineering direction and product strategy across multiple stakeholders. Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
