Software Development Engineer II, Price Perception and Evaluation

Description

Customers should be able to trust every deal they see on Amazon, and sellers should be able to offer genuine deals with confidence. Our team makes both possible. We own Amazon's record of what products have cost, which helps confirm that deals deliver real savings and helps customers decide whether now is a good time to buy.

The scale is rare. You will build systems that process price and order data for millions of products, every day, across Amazon's stores in more than a dozen countries. That data feeds dozens of systems across Amazon, from the deal and promotion tools sellers and vendors use to the price history customers see on product pages and the answers AI shopping assistants give about past prices. During Prime Day and Black Friday, your systems have to stay accurate and fresh under the heaviest shopping load of the year.

We are bringing our historical price systems together onto one shared record, so customers, sellers, and partner teams all see the same history. You will help design and deliver that change while the systems keep running in production, and you join while the architecture is still being set.

Key job responsibilities

Design, build, and operate large-scale data pipelines that process price and order data for millions of products every day.

Build data-quality checks and anomaly detection that keep the historical price record accurate and trustworthy at that scale.

Deliver key parts of the move onto one shared price-history platform, using parallel runs, shadow testing, staged cutovers, and retirement of legacy components.

Make price data fresher by moving batch processing toward event-driven designs where freshness matters most.

Own operational readiness for peak shopping events such as Prime Day and Black Friday, including capacity testing, monitoring, alarms, and on-call.

Build tools that help sellers, vendors, and internal teams understand and trust the price data behind their deals.

Define clear data contracts with partner engineering teams in deals, promotions, shopping experiences, and AI shopping assistants.

Write design documents, take part in design and code reviews, and mentor newer engineers on the team.

Use AI-assisted development tools to speed up migration, testing, and validation work, while applying your own judgment to correctness and design.

A day in the life

You start the morning in a design review for the shared price-history platform, working through how it will serve fresh data for millions of products at Prime Day volume. You make the case for a simpler design, and the team agrees on it. Late morning, you and a teammate prototype a new way to spot anomalies in price data, using AI tools to generate test cases and compare results across countries.

After lunch with the team, you meet with your product manager and the engineers behind price history on product pages and AI shopping assistants. Together you decide which new facts about past prices they need and how they will use them. You end the day turning that conversation into a design proposal and reviewing a teammate's code.

About The Team

We own Amazon's record of what products have cost and the historical price data that helps confirm deals are real.
