Senior Tax Manager

Senior Tax Manager, Private Client Advisory | Halifax, Remote

ARC Advisory and Accounting is a remote CPA firm based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Ten people, about 200 clients, cloud-native since we opened in 2020. We are hiring a Senior Tax Manager. The work is done from home, but this role is based in Halifax; you need to be here already or willing to move.

What you would own:

A portfolio of owner-managed clients. You run the meetings, you set the agenda, you are the person they call. Nobody sits between you and the client. You are not expected to know everything yourself; there is real technical depth on the team to draw on, and knowing when to pull it in is part of the job. We are looking for someone who manages the relationship and the work rather than doing all of it alone, and who uses that support to look better in front of their clients.

Planning well past compliance: compensation mix, corporate structure and reorganizations, holdco and trust planning, succession and estate work, and the tax side of buying or selling a business.

Monthly and quarterly advisory reporting; you review what the team produces and turn it into something the owner can act on.

Technical sign-off on T1, T2 and T3 work prepared by the team, plus GST/HST and other non-income tax compliance.

CRA audits, reviews and correspondence.

Coaching the associates coming up behind you.

What we are looking for:

8+ years of Canadian tax, most of it with owner-managed private companies.

CPA, with In-Depth Tax or equivalent depth earned in practice.

Strong T1, T2, T3 and GST/HST; comfortable with talking about reorganizations and estate planning.

Advanced Excel and real fluency with cloud software. Our stack is Karbon, TaxCycle, QuickBooks Online, Dext, Ignition and Microsoft 365.

Very strong writing. Client memos, planning summaries, recommendations emails.

Two things matter more than anything on that list. Clients have to like working with you; this role is about the relationship. And you must be able to run your own week. We are small and remote, and nobody here is going to build your schedule for you.

A bit about us:

Our niches are incorporated realtors and construction companies.

Paperless since 2020.

Our T1 count is low and are mostly there to support our business clients. Tax season is less hectic here than it is at most firms as a result.

You work from home, and we get together in person regularly.

Four weeks of vacation to start, a Health Spending Account, and all the equipment you need for your home office.

Salary Range:

$170,000 - $185,000 CDN.

Next steps:

Send a resume and a short note to info@arccpa.ca.
