Job Summary

Retention is the highest-leverage profit engine for modern eCommerce brands. We are looking for a Senior Retention Marketing Strategist to own the lifecycle and messaging strategy for a portfolio of high-growth brands. This is not a "task-execution" role; we are looking for a strategic thinker who can move the needle on Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) and repeat purchase rates. You will be the architect behind high-converting email and SMS campaigns, sophisticated automation flows, and data-driven optimizations. If you are a master of direct-response copywriting, technical lifecycle strategy, and client communication, this is your opportunity to lead the retention function at a tech-forward, AI-enabled agency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy Ownership: Build and manage comprehensive monthly email and SMS campaign calendars that align with seasonal trends, product launches, and evergreen goals.
  • Direct-Response Copywriting: Write high-converting, brand-aligned copy for campaigns and complex lifecycle flows (Welcome, Abandonment, Post-Purchase, Winback, VIP, etc.).
  • Lifecycle Optimization: Audit and enhance automated systems to improve segmentation, offer strategy, and customer journey mapping.
  • Performance Analysis: Review account data regularly to identify trends, translate metrics into actionable insights, and prepare strategic reporting for clients.
  • Client Advisory: Lead strategy calls, present recommendations with confidence, and identify opportunities for account expansion or upsells.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with designers, builders, and account managers to ensure every strategic plan is executed with precision and quality.
  • Innovation: Leverage AI tools and internal SOPs to improve workflow efficiency while maintaining the highest standard of strategic judgment.

  • Proven Experience: 3–5+ years in retention, lifecycle, or CRM marketing, specifically within the eCommerce/DTC space. Agency experience is highly preferred.
  • Platform Expertise: Advanced hands-on experience with Klaviyo (or similar platforms) and a solid understanding of the Shopify ecosystem.
  • Copywriting Mastery: Ability to write compelling direct-response copy across multiple brand voices that balances storytelling with conversion.
  • Analytical Mindset: Deep understanding of retention KPIs (attributed revenue, CTR, AOV, repeat purchase rates, list health, and deliverability).
  • Strategic Communication: Strong ability to present data-driven strategies clearly to founders and marketing leads.
  • Technical Agility: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adopting AI-enabled workflows to stay at the cutting edge of the industry.
  • Ownership: A proactive, detail-oriented approach to managing multiple accounts and deadlines with minimal oversight.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with specialized SMS platforms like Attentive or Postscript.
  • Familiarity with paid media channels (Meta, Google, TikTok) and how they integrate with retention.
  • Experience managing retention for 7-to-9-figure eCommerce brands.
  • Prior experience in subscription-based or consumable product categories.
