Our client, a major player in the energy sector, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Power Systems Engineer to join their esteemed team in Toronto, Ontario . This critical role involves leading complex projects related to the design, analysis, and operation of power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in power system stability, load flow analysis, short circuit calculations, and protection coordination. You will be responsible for providing technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our electrical infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and analysis of large-scale power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution networks. Perform detailed power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, transient stability, and harmonic analysis. Develop and implement protection schemes and coordination studies for power systems. Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to a team of power systems engineers. Develop technical specifications for power system equipment and infrastructure projects. Collaborate with project teams, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and project success. Investigate and resolve complex power system operational issues and disturbances. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in power system technologies, standards, and best practices. Contribute to the development of long-term strategic plans for the power system infrastructure. Prepare comprehensive technical reports and present findings to management and clients. Requirements Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems. A Ph.D. is a strong asset. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in power systems engineering. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in Ontario or eligibility for immediate licensure. In-depth knowledge of power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD). Expertise in power system dynamics, fault analysis, and protection engineering. Proven experience in leading complex engineering projects and mentoring teams. Strong understanding of grid codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders. Experience with renewable energy integration and smart grid technologies is desirable.
