Principal Platform Architect – Physical AI Data & Runtime Platform, Kitchener, ON

Change the future with us. We are looking for dedicated and talented people who solve ever-changing challenges, customer needs, and questions from colleagues with clever concepts and creativity. We embrace change and work with curious minds re-inventing the future of work. Join us and let us focus together on what’s truly important: making lives better with new ideas and the latest technology around the world.

About the role: Are you a senior software architect passionate about designing scalable platforms for AI, robotics, industrial data, and execution-oriented applications?

Do you enjoy turning technical ambiguity into robust architectures, clear interfaces, and production-grade systems?

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Platform Architect to define the architecture of our Canada-based platform capability that supports robotics data ingestion, validation, transformation, governance, workflow execution, and future runtime-oriented Physical AI applications.

In this role, you will be responsible for the platform backbone: APIs, data contracts, event-driven services, ingestion pipelines, workflow and orchestration patterns, security architecture, observability, and system integration concepts. You will work closely with team leadership, AI/ML and robotics specialists, backend engineers, frontend engineers, and DevOps engineers to shape a platform that can scale from early pilots to broader industrial deployment!

What will you do?

  • Define the end-to-end platform architecture across data ingestion, metadata management, APIs, workflow execution, connectors, and deployment foundations.
  • Establish architectural principles for a modular platform that can support robotics data use cases today and broader Physical AI workflows over time.
  • Design data contracts, service boundaries, integration patterns, and interface standards for robot, vision, edge, and research-facing systems.
  • Shape the platform architecture for customer data onboarding, dataset versioning, validation, governance, and evaluation support.
  • Define scalable patterns for workflow orchestration, asynchronous processing, event-driven services, and system observability.
  • Collaborate with robotics integration engineers to define connector strategies for robot controllers, sensors, cameras, and other edge sources.
  • Guide decisions around cloud-native services, storage layers, API security, deployment models, and production hardening.
  • Ensure that the platform can evolve cleanly into future domain areas such as Level 3 skill enablement, validation harnesses, and task workflow execution.
  • Mentor engineers across backend, integration, and platform domains and help raise overall technical quality.
  • Contribute to architecture reviews, technical roadmaps, and build-vs-partner decisions where appropriate.
What you will bring:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Distributed Systems, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience, typically 10+ years, in software architecture, platform engineering, backend systems, or large-scale distributed applications.
  • Deep knowledge of cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, APIs, event-driven design, security-by-design, and scalable data platforms.
  • Strong experience defining architecture for complex, cross-functional products with multiple stakeholders and evolving requirements.
  • Familiarity with industrial data systems, AI/ML platform patterns, or robotics-related software systems.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain architecture decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Hands-on mindset with the ability to move between strategic architecture and implementation guidance.
What sets you apart:
  • Experience with robotics software systems, runtime platforms, workflow engines, ROS/ROS2, or edge integration.
  • Experience in AI/ML data platforms, model evaluation platforms, or MLOps tooling.
  • Exposure to industrial protocols, control-adjacent software environments, or real-time integration constraints.
  • Experience helping new engineering teams establish architecture from the ground up.
Why Join Us?
  • Impact: Build the founding team and platform capability for a strategic Physical AI initiative in Canada.
  • Innovation: Work at the intersection of robotics, AI, industrial software, workflow orchestration, and platform engineering.
  • Leadership: Shape the direction, culture, and operating model of a new strategic engineering organization.
  • Collaboration: Partner with leading global research, product, and engineering teams.
  • Growth: Help define how Physical AI platform capabilities scale from data foundations to runtime-enabled industrial applications.
Salary : Salary is commensurate with experience, and base salary ranges between $140,000 - $185,000 CAD excluding bonus and benefits. In addition to base salary, this role includes eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus ranging from 10 % to 15% of base salary, based on Company performance metrics.
