About the Role
Star Students is currently hiring two part-time remote teachers to begin in October/November.The role is primarily focused on homeschool instruction, but may also include 1:1 tutoring, small group instruction, curriculum planning, lesson design, live online classes, parent communication, student progress updates, and occasional resource creation.
Teachers should be comfortable working with mixed ages and grade levels, including elementary, middle school, and potentially early high school learners. The ideal candidate is flexible, well organized, warm, creative, and confident adapting instruction to different students, learning profiles, and family goals. This is a remote, part-time independent contractor position, beginning at approximately 8 hours per week, with potential to grow over time.
Key Responsibilities The teacher may be responsible for:
- Providing live remote homeschool instruction to students in elementary, middle school, and/or early high school
- Delivering 1:1 tutoring and small group instruction
- Teaching across multiple subject areas, depending on student needs and teacher strengths
- Adapting lessons for mixed ages, varied grade levels, and different learning profiles
- Supporting students who may be working below grade level, above grade level, or asynchronously across subjects
- Creating engaging, personalized lessons that are clear, structured, and student-centered
- Supporting project-based learning, creative assignments, and real-world application
- Helping students build academic confidence, independence, and strong learning habits
- Communicating professionally with parents about student progress, needs, and next steps
- Providing brief progress updates, lesson notes, or recommendations when needed
- Collaborating with Star Students leadership to align instruction with each family’s goals
- Occasionally supporting curriculum planning, resource creation, or lesson design
- Maintaining a warm, reliable, professional presence with students and families
- A certified educator or highly experienced homeschool educator
- Warm, nurturing, and encouraging while still providing structure
- Creative, flexible, and able to think outside the traditional classroom model
- Comfortable teaching students with different academic levels, personalities, and learning needs
- Skilled at making lessons feel engaging, practical, and meaningful
- Highly reliable, organized, and professional
- Confident communicating with parents in a clear and supportive way
- Comfortable with parent involvement and family-centered education
- Able to balance academic excellence with emotional safety and student confidence
- Respectful of family values and able to teach in a politically neutral, values-respecting way
- Excited by personalized education, homeschool support, and alternative learning models
- Comfortable working independently while staying aligned with Star Students’ expectations and standards
Required Qualifications
Applicants should have
- A Bachelor’s degree
- A Bachelor of Education or equivalent teacher certification
- Certified teacher status preferred
- Strong English communication skills
- Experience teaching or tutoring children or teens
- Confidence teaching multiple subjects or supporting cross-curricular learning
- Reliable internet, a professional remote teaching setup, and comfort using online tools
- Strong lesson planning, communication, and organization skills
- Availability during late morning and early afternoon Eastern Daylight Time
Learning Support Experience
Experience supporting diverse learning needs is highly valued.Star Students works with students who may have a wide range of strengths, challenges, and learning styles. Preferred experience includes supporting students with:
- ADHD
- Autism
- Dyslexia
- Memory retention challenges
- Anxiety or highly sensitive learning profiles
- Giftedness
- Executive functioning difficulties
- Students working below grade level

Schedule and Availability
This is a remote, part-time role.Teachers should generally be available during:
Late morning and early afternoon Eastern Daylight Time The role will begin at approximately 8 hours per week, with the possibility of increasing over time based on student needs, teacher availability, and fit. Because Star Students provides a high-touch experience for families, reliability and consistency are very important.
Compensation
Compensation is $30–$35 CAD/hour, depending on experience, qualifications, subject versatility,homeschool experience, and learning support background. Approved instructional, planning, communication, and resource creation hours are paid at the agreed contractor rate.
