On-call Writer
Job Description:
- Research, write and prepare content distributed across all MétéoMédia platforms
- Prepare and update content daily and create headlines
- Propose 2 to 4 headlines for each piece of content intended for digital platforms and perform required tests
- Write news content for all platforms
- Manage news content and associated elements
- Monitor the weather situation daily
- Verify information sources to ensure timely news updates
- Oversee the creation of graphic elements and add them to pages via content management systems (CMS)
- Gather and analyze information, including by phone interviews, research, news wires and user-generated content
- Provide sustained coverage during active weather
- Identify priority topics with team members according to editorial priorities
- Identify and surface relevant content for users and viewers
- Manage “active weather” alert banners on sites and apps
- Validate content results using measurement tools
- Enable content exchange across MétéoMédia platforms
- Contribute to information distribution on social networks
- Participate in preparing and updating the editorial calendar
- Translate and edit texts
- Assist with researching, writing and preparing audiovisual content, and occasionally present on camera
- Perform any other responsibilities and tasks related to the role
- Provide support as needed for scheduled shifts; no minimum hours are guaranteed
Requirements:
- University degree in communications, journalism or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant writing experience
- Experience and interest in science communication
- Good knowledge of geography, meteorology and environmental issues
- Excellent written French
- Bilingual (French/English) required
- Excellent editorial judgment
- Excellent writing and research skills
- Good understanding of the Internet and interest in new media
- Strong knowledge of and ability to use interactive communication tools and social media
- Ability to navigate a computer environment
- Initiative
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Flexibility with work schedule
