Become an HR Consultant at Evoke HR & Immigration

‍

Evoke HR & Immigration is a boutique consulting firm based in Chilliwack. We’re growing, and we’re looking for an experienced HR consultant to join our close-knit team as an independent contractor. The role starts at approximately 20 to 25 hours per week, with the opportunity to grow to full-time. Compensation is a revenue share, equivalent to approximately $105 to $120 per hour.

‍

We work with small local businesses, municipalities and regional governments, Indigenous organizations, not-for-profits and societies, and emergency service organizations. Most are provincially regulated, a few are federal, and there’s a good mix of union and non-union workplaces. We get to know our clients well, and they rely on us for practical, credible HR support, whether that’s ongoing fractional HR or a defined project.

‍

We’re a small team of experienced HR professionals. We set a high bar for ourselves, we work hard, and we enjoy it. People here help each other out, share what they know and keep things light when the pace picks up.

‍ ‍

Who We’d Like to Meet:

‍

We’re open to HR professionals coming from different places. You might be an in-house HR generalist who’s ready to try consulting but doesn’t want to do it alone. You might already be consulting independently and miss having colleagues to work with on larger projects. Or you might be an experienced HR professional looking for flexible work that keeps you learning.

‍ ‍

The Role:

‍

  • Take on a portfolio of small business clients and grow it over time. You’ll be their go-to for day-to-day HR guidance, from drafting policies and employee handbooks to helping managers with performance and everyday people questions.
  • Help clients address workplace conduct concerns, from early resolution of disputes through to formal investigations.
  • Support unionized clients with their day-to-day labour relations, working alongside senior consultants on more complex matters.
  • Work on project teams for larger clients. Recent projects have included strategic workforce planning, job evaluation in unionized settings, compensation reviews, competency frameworks, employee engagement, organizational design and succession planning.
  • Become a trusted advisor to the clients you support, with advice that fits their world and makes a difference.
  • ‍ ‍

The Requirements:

‍

  • CPHR designation, or working towards it.
  • Solid generalist experience and a love for the work, with a commitment to staying current with HR best practices.
  • Labour relations experience in a unionized environment, including working directly with union representatives, interpreting collective agreements and managing grievances.
  • Clear, confident communication, whether you’re drafting a report, facilitating a session, presenting to leadership or meeting with union representatives.
  • A warm, personable manner and the emotional intelligence to read a room. Clients trust you because you listen well and stay focused on the outcomes that matter to them.
  • The flexibility to shift easily between advising small business owners and contributing to larger project teams.
  • Curiosity and the drive to keep growing, with an appreciation for what you can learn from experienced colleagues.
  • Ability to travel to client sites on an occasional basis.
  • ‍ ‍

You’ll Stand Out If You Have:

‍

  • Job evaluation experience, ideally with a joint union-management committee.
  • Public and private sector experience.
  • A track record of connecting with people. You listen, get to the heart of an issue and put practical support and guidance in place, and you can share examples of how you’ve done it.
  • ‍ ‍

Why Evoke:

‍

Business is strong and the work is varied. In one month you could be helping a small business owner put their first set of HR policies in place, sitting on a job evaluation committee and supporting a municipality with its strategic workforce plan. It’s hard to get that range in a single in-house role.

‍

You’ll work alongside two senior consultants who are happy to share what they’ve learned and will support you as you grow. We respect each other, we pitch in when someone’s stretched, and we take time to celebrate when things go well. If consulting appeals to you but going solo doesn’t, we’d like to hear from you.
