The Toronto Grace Health Centre (TGHC) provides specialized care and services to those individuals who require Complex Continuing Care, Post-Acute Care Rehabilitation, Palliative Care, and Transitional Care. The care and services provided at TGHC help facilitate the patient flow through the health care system and ensures recovery to those individuals who may return to their homes or to Long Term Care (LTC) facilities in their communities. TGHC operates in 3 sites – the Main site (Church & Bloor St), Harbour Light and a Specialized Care Centre (Victoria Park & McNicoll).

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager Food Services, the Food Service Worker is responsible for food preparation for patients and or catering services and maintaining established levels of sanitation.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Food preparation (e.g. sandwich fillings, salads, etc.)
  • Portioning food, preparing stripping and sorting trays
  • Taking patient food orders and entering information in computer database, using an IPAD
  • Delivering food and nourishments to patients
  • Cleaning kitchen and equipment
  • Maintaining established standards of sanitation
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications and Education:

  • High School Diploma or approved equivalent
  • Food Handler Certificate or equivalent required
  • Previous food handling experience in healthcare setting an asset
  • Demonstrate understanding of therapeutic diets and typical Canadian Foods
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong time management skills
  • Demonstrated skills in computer software applications (email and intranet)
  • Strong Interpersonal skills, ability to interact with a diverse community and ability to deal empathetically with patients, family members to contribute to a respectful and compassionate environment
  • Ability to meet the physical demands in order to perform the essential duties of the position which requires bending, lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for extended periods of time as required
  • Knowledge of the Health Protection & Promotions Act, the Canadian Food Sanitation Code and Ministry of Health and Long Term Care standards related to food and nutrition services or Maintaining established standards of sanitation
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Must have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada prior to start date, and submit evidence of such. Must maintain Covid-19 Vaccination schedules as approved by Health Canada Medical exemptions or any other kind of requested exemption based upon the Hospital’s obligations pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code will be considered on a case-by-case basis
