Role summary

The Email Campaign Strategist is responsible for shaping the strategic and creative direction of client email and SMS campaigns. This role combines campaign calendar ownership, AI-assisted copy refinement, and retention strategy to deliver high-performing campaigns that align with each brand's voice and goals.

How this role fits on the team

You'll work closely with the Lifecycle Marketing Manager, who leads the client relationship, sets the overall retention strategy, and manages the creative team.

Your role as the Email Campaign Strategist is to:

  • Own the campaign calendar and creative direction for client email/SMS content.
  • Maintain brand voice and strategic alignment across campaigns and flows.
  • Review and refine AI-generated content to maximize engagement and performance.

You own the campaign strategy and content quality — the analyst brings it to life through precise execution and performance improvements.

Key responsibilities

Campaign strategy & copy refinement

  • Edit AI-assisted copy (generated via our internal tool) to ensure every campaign is polished, on-brand, and performance-ready.
  • Optimize AI prompts to improve first-draft quality and reduce revision time.

Calendar & project management

  • Participate in client calls and Slack communication to align on campaign priorities, updating calendars and tasks accordingly.
  • Plan 30-day email and SMS campaign calendars aligned with launches, promotions, and flows.
  • Guide the creative team to execute campaigns and flows up to standard and on time.
  • Review creative assets (copy & design) for clarity, consistency, and strategic alignment.

Retention strategy & optimization

  • Use Klaviyo and CRM tools to define segmentation, flow logic, and campaign triggers.
  • Identify trends, performance gaps, and testing opportunities to boost engagement and retention.

Disqualifiers

Who shouldn't apply:

  • If you struggle to manage multiple moving parts across clients and projects at once.
  • If you prefer highly structured environments and need step-by-step direction.
  • If you're not comfortable giving and receiving feedback in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.
  • If you avoid owning problems and prefer to escalate every roadblock to leadership.
  • If you're not genuinely interested in eCommerce, CRM strategy, or retention marketing.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

  • 2+ years of experience in email marketing, campaign strategy, or copywriting — ideally in an agency or with DTC/eCommerce brands.
  • Strong understanding of lifecycle and retention marketing, including email, SMS, subscriptions, and loyalty programs.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style to multiple brand voices and refine AI-assisted copy into polished, conversion-ready content.
  • CRM knowledge is required; experience with Klaviyo is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to plan and maintain campaign calendars, manage creative workflows, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Meticulous attention to detail when reviewing copy, design, and campaign assets.

We are an AI-first, efficiency-driven company.

We actively encourage the use of LLMs (like ChatGPT, Claude), Shopify apps, and other automation tools that help you work smarter, faster, and more strategically. The best candidates will embrace tools that streamline execution and enhance the quality of work.
