Business Development Associate | First Nations & Technology

Early-Career Growth Opportunity | BC-Based | Some Travel Across British Columbia and Western Canada

Help First Nations protect their territories, strengthen emergency preparedness, and build sovereign records of their lands.

We're BackRoadIntel, a Canadian technology company building a new kind of Territory Intelligence Platform for First Nations.

Our mission is to help First Nations independently document, monitor and understand what's happening across their territories, creating trusted, Nation-controlled records that support emergency management, environmental stewardship, infrastructure planning and negotiations with governments and industry.

We're looking for an energetic, entrepreneurial associate or recent graduate who wants to help bring this technology to First Nations communities across British Columbia and, ultimately, Canada.

This isn't a typical entry-level sales job.

It's a mission to help protect Indigenous people and territory. It's an opportunity to get involved with an early-stage technology company, work directly with its founders, help build a national business, and make a meaningful difference along the way.

What we're building

BackRoadIntel combines field-based sensors, video, mapping and AI to help communities develop their own ongoing records of their territories.

Our platform helps First Nations:

  • Improve emergency preparedness: Document evacuation routes, road accessibility, changing conditions and hazards that could affect community safety.
  • Monitor road health: Track road conditions, deterioration, accessibility and infrastructure changes over time.
  • Build sovereign territorial records: Create and retain Nation-controlled evidence of conditions and activities within their territories.
  • Support negotiations and advocacy: Develop historical records and evidence packages to support discussions with government, industry and other stakeholders.
  • Track changes to the nation over time: Observe environmental, infrastructure and land-use changes using repeatable, location-based documentation in an easy to use package.

The goal is straightforward: Help First Nations build and control their own territorial intelligence.

Evidence, not just pictures.

Your work will contribute to the growth of a platform we believe could eventually serve First Nations across Canada.

What you'll be doing

  • Build relationships with First Nations leadership, emergency management teams, economic development organizations and other community representatives.

  • Is an excellent communicator who can build relationships and earn trust.
  • Is interested in First Nations communities, emergency management, technology or environmental stewardship.
  • Is based in British Columbia and willing to travel throughout the province to close business.

Experience working with First Nations communities is an asset, but not required. Respect, humility and a willingness to listen and learn are essential.
