Book Formatter
Typeset manuscripts into print and ebook editions that go to Amazon KDP and IngramSpark without a rejection. Fully remote, worldwide. A badly formatted book gets returned. A well formatted one disappears — the reader never notices the typesetting, they just keep reading. That invisible craft is the job. HMD Publishing is a UK self-publishing agency. We've produced over 10,000 books for authors in 47 countries, and formatting sits at the centre of the production line: once editing is done and the cover is approved, the manuscript comes to you and leaves as files that go straight to Amazon KDP and IngramSpark without a rejection. You'll typeset both sides of every title — print editions (paperback and hardcover, correct trim size, gutter, and bleed) and ebooks (Kindle and ePub that reflow properly on a phone, an e-ink reader, and a tablet). Some weeks that's a straightforward novel. Other weeks it's a cookbook with 90 images, a textbook with tables and footnotes, or a children's picture book where the text has to sit around the art. This role is fully remote and open worldwide. We're headquartered in Nottingham, UK, and the production team overlaps for a few hours a day — you'll need a reliable connection and to be reachable in that window, but we don't watch clocks. What we care about is whether the files come back clean. To apply, send your CV and a portfolio or work samples. We will ask you to talk us through one book you formatted and the decisions you made: why that typeface, why that leading, how you handled the front matter. Bring a file you're proud of.
