Our Canadian journey began with the opening of our first cafés in Montreal, introducing a European-inspired yet locally adapted experience. As part of our continued growth, we are proud to announce the opening of a new Columbus Café in downtown Toronto, and we are looking for passionate Baristas to join this exciting adventure.

Position Summary

As a Barista, you will be the face of Columbus Café & Co, playing a key role in creating memorable experiences for our guests. You’ll prepare our signature coffees, teas, and pastries with care, deliver outstanding customer service, and contribute to the warm, welcoming atmosphere that defines our brand. This role also offers opportunities to develop your skills in food handling, cash management, and POS operations — with the potential to grow and advance as part of our dedicated team..

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and open the café for service, including setup, displays, and patio (if applicable)
  • Welcome customers warmly and guide them through our menu
  • Prepare and serve beverages according to Columbus Café & Co recipes and quality standards (coffees, teas, chocolates, smoothies, etc.)
  • Bake and assemble gourmet pastries, muffins, sandwiches, and salads
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all work areas (counter, kitchen, dining area, and storage)
  • Operate the cash register and handle payments accurately
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by greeting guests, taking orders, and addressing inquiries professionally
  • Receive, check, and store deliveries following FIFO and food safety standards
  • Monitor product freshness and expiration dates daily
  • Support and help train junior team members as needed
  • Ensure full compliance with food safety and hygiene procedures at all times
Required Skills & Qualities

Technical Skills

  • Previous barista experience or a background in the food and beverage industry is preferred
  • Knowledge of coffee preparation techniques and espresso-based drinks
  • Experience in food preparation, service, and general café or food service operations is an advantage
  • Understanding of hygiene and food safety standards
  • Comfortable using POS systems and handling cash

  • Strong team spirit and ability to collaborate effectively
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with both team members and customers
  • Outstanding customer service skills with a friendly and welcoming demeanor — smiling, attentive, and professional
