<strong>Job Description<br><br></strong><strong>Section:</strong> Arenas<br><br><strong>Division:</strong> Parks and Recreation Services<br><br><strong>Department:</strong> Community Services<br><br><strong>Initial Reporting Location:</strong> Various Arenas<br><br><strong>Job Status:</strong> Seasonal part time positions<br><br><strong>Estimated Probable Duration:</strong> Seven (7) months<br><br><strong>Number of Vacancies:</strong> 3<br><br><strong>Union Affiliation: </strong>CUPE 4705 Outside Unit<br><br><strong>Hours of Work:</strong> Up to 48 hours bi-weekly<br><br><strong>Shift Work Required:</strong> Yes<br><br><strong>Rate of Pay:</strong> $34.75 per hour<br><br><strong>The start date will follow the selection process.<br><br></strong>A <strong>criminal record check</strong> is required for this position and will be requested by the Hiring Manager should you be the candidate of choice. Please do not submit your criminal record check with your application.<br><br><strong>Main Function: </strong>Assist with the operation and maintenance of an arena/community centre/sports complex. During ice-out periods may act as maintenanceperson performing general park duties.<br><br><strong>Characteristic Duties:</strong> Under the general supervision of the Manager of Arenas or Assistant Manager of Arenas and the day-to-day direction of the Arena Maintenanceperson Lead Hand.<br><br><ul><li>Act as a general handyman in performing a variety of duties connected with maintenance, repair, minor construction, grounds keeping.</li><li>Maintain ice surface by utilizing arena refrigeration systems and ice resurfacer.</li><li>Conduct regular scheduled ice surface maintenance, edging, ice build-up/shaving, whitewashing, lining, logo painting, and drop-in logo installation.</li><li>Perform the function of janitor to the buildings.</li><li>Deliver equipment, supplies and material by designated vehicle.</li><li>Requisition supplies and materials for maintenance, repair and construction work.</li><li>Maintain surveillance and minor service to mechanical, electrical and refrigeration equipment: reports abnormalities or breakdown of equipment or vandalism to the Manager of Arenas or designate Assistant Manager of Arenas.</li><li>Maintain all records in accordance with the Operating Engineers Act.</li><li>Maintain Daily Work Performance and Preventative Maintenance Logs.</li><li>Maintain Daily Heating System and Refrigeration Plant Logs.</li><li>Assist with the co-ordination of set-up of special events and functions.</li><li>In the absence of the Manager of Arenas, designate Assistant Manager of Arenas, Arena Maintenanceperson Lead Hand, protect the Facility, collect monies from ice rentals and accept responsibility for monies generated by the canteen and tickets sales, oversee and instruct part time maintenance staff and security personnel in the safe performance of their duties. </li><li>Maintain a good corporate image of the Department and CGS.</li><li>Ensure all procedures in the Arenas Safe Work Procedures Manual are followed</li><li>Provide the highest standard of quality customer service to a wide variety of Facility Users</li><li>Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.</li><li>Perform other related duties as required.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Qualifications<br><br></strong><strong>Education and Training:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.</li><li>Possession of a Refrigeration Operator “B” Certificate, where applicable under the Act. Where the act does not apply, Basic Refrigeration Level 1 is required.</li><li>Other Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA) Certifications considered an asset.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Experience<br><br></strong><ul><li>Three (3) years* experience maintaining a similar type building and equipment, including working knowledge of building operating systems such as HVAC systems, sound systems, electrical, plumbing, fire, etc. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Arena ice making operations and resurfacing.<br><br></li></ul>NOTE: For this position, years* is considered equivalent to winter seasons (ie: 3 years is equal to 3 winter seasons).<br><br><strong>Other Requirements<br><br></strong><ul><li>Proven dependability to be able to work without direct supervision.</li><li>Must have demonstrated strong customer service and interpersonal skills in dealing with the public, staff and outside agencies in a courteous and effective manner.</li><li>Must have demonstrated knowledge operating an ice resurfacer. </li><li>Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.</li><li>Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.</li><li>Provide at own cost, a Criminal Record Check.</li><li>May require the use of a personal or CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's licence and have an acceptable driving record.<br><br></li></ul>This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.<br><br>Development opportunity rate of pay: $33.01 per hour.
